Meet Benny, an amazing, sweet and well behaved American Staffordshire/Pit Bull Mix.

Poor Benny got off to a rough start in life.

He was brought into the East Valley Shelter last year as a stray. He was extremely skinny (all this ribs showed) and his fur was dull and rough -- so it appeared that he had been kept outside, sleeping on concrete.

Luckily for Benny, a volunteer recognized how special Benny was

and got him neutered so he could be part of the foster program.

A wonderful woman then signed up for the shelter's 4days4life foster program

over the 4th of July, and took Benny home for the long weekend so he could have a reprieve from the shelter.

She immediately fell in love with him and knew she could not return him to a kill shelter and instead made it her life's mission to find him a

home.

For the past seven months she loved him, took him to regular vet visits, made sure he was well feed (his coat is now shiny and soft and he is at a healthy weight)

Unfortunately,

she can no longer keep Benny herself, so Benny is currently being boarded and trained at the well respected LAK9s with an amazing

trainer named Colleen.

Colleen knows what a special dog Benny is so she is kindly giving two free training sessions to his new family.

Benny is around 6-years-old and weighs 70 lbs.

He is fantastic with other dogs.

At the doggy day-care he attended for several months, he was the staff favorite and called "the peacemaker,"

If a dog snapped at him, he didn't react.

He especially loves little dogs and is very gentle with them.

As for cats, he has lived with one and has never shown any aggression.

In general, he doesn't seem to have much of a prey drive.

He is housebroken and has never had an accident in the house.

Benny LOVES people.

He can be a little wary and timid with some people at first, but he will warm up quickly if they are gentle.

He's also very sweet and gentle with kids, but since he's a big boy and has a little anxiety (doesn't like to be hugged from the front, etc.), he would probably do best in a home without young children.

Benny's good on the leash and loves the car. He loves to go for long walks.

In general, he needs to be in a home that is consistent with his exercise and rules, boundaries and limitations - and it would be great if his adopter is familiar with the bully breeds.

He needs to feel safe and secure so he can thrive.

He has been neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, house-broken and loved.
